New Here?

Welcome!

If you are new here and you haven't yet visited one of our gatherings, that word sums up what you will experience. These are welcoming people. If you are looking to be anonymous and ignored this isn't the place for you. However, if you are looking for a place where you can become part of a family this is the place. Below you will find some basic information that will tell you a little more about our beliefs, and what we are about.

Our History

Sandpoint Church of the Nazarene has been serving the community since 1937. In 1989 we moved to our current location and since 1996 have also been the home of Sandpoint Christian School.

Our Mission

Our mission may sound familiar to you. If you recognize what Jesus declared to be the greatest commandment, you will recognize our mission -- "To love God with all our heart, soul mind and strength, and love our neighbors as we love ourselves." and second to live in such a way that we all are becoming fully devoted followers of Christ.

Our Vision

What do we mean by a vision? Our vision is how we see the mission playing out in our specific situation. How does the fact that we live in Bonner County, Idaho in this point in time, and with who we are as a church influence how we live out this mission? So here it is:

Connecting Generations in
Authentic Community
Growing Toward Christ-likeness
Becoming Missional People.

Connecting Generations: Families include all ages, and we believe that's how God intends it. We plan much of what we do to build relationships across generational lines.

Authentic Community: We want everyone who is part of our church to connect with a group of people and share life with them, not just settle for surface level acquaintances, but to experience the life giving power of community.

Growing Toward Christ-likeness: It is God's plan that those who call on His name should be like Him in attitude and behavior. We exist not just to collect the saints, but to transform them.

Becoming Missional People: Once we experience God's love and care through life giving family relationships we are called to go and share that love with others-to no longer live only for ourselves, but to live for Him who died for us.

Our Beliefs

About God. God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He is Holy in nature. He has eternally existed in three personalities: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

About Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people. He died on a cross, rose again, ascended to heaven, and is interceding for us.

About the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. As Christians, we seek to live under his control daily.

About the Bible. The Bible is God's word to us. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.

About Salvation. Salvation is God's free Gift to everyone who will believe that Jesus' shed blood brings forgiveness for our sins. Although it is free, we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his or her life.

About Entire Sanctification. The word "sanctify" means to be set apart or made Holy. There is a difference between accepting God's gift of salvation and living a life of service for God. Sanctification begins at the moment of salvation. Entire sanctification is when a person not only accepts God's gift of salvation but turns his or her whole life completely over to God.

About Free Will or Choice. Christ made all the arrangements necessary so that we can be saved, but He did not take away our freedom of choice. While God chose us, we must choose, accept, and live out our relationship with Him.
